Cedarburg bungalow addition and renovation
-
The owners of this Cedarburg bungalow were looking to better utilize their first floor spaces for their lifestyle.
While the existing layout of the home was fairly typical for a bungalow, today’s need to have a more functional kitchen/dining area, an additional living space for the family to spread out and to create a more private master suite meant we needed to get creative with the entire floor plan.

By re-imagining the flow of the traditional bungalow, we were able to open up the main living space to allow for today’s family lifestyle. We knew we needed to add another living space, add another bathroom and close off the master bedroom while also re-designing some of the main living spaces to allow for a more up to date flow for today's living. After reviewing multiple options with the owner's, they decided to go with a sunroom addition off the rear of the house to open up the views to the backyard. This solved part of the design problem, but we also needed to re-purpose one of the two first floor bedrooms and added a powder bath and much needed family mudroom off the rear foyer. To create the more private master bath we were able to re-use one of the original doors off the re-imagined kitchen that allowed for a much more open flow to the dining space. Through adding a kitchen island, relocating the dining table and adding a new built-in for additional storage in the dining space. The entire flow of the main floor was transformed into a much more open concept which still provides areas to get away to while keeping the original home's details and charm.

A new rear foyer provides a gathering space as you enter the back of the home which serves as a hub for the family.
Off the back of the rear foyer is the sunroom, which has beautiful views of the large backyard and a gorgeous fireplace with built-in storage and seating on either side.
The kitchen has been opened up to the dining and front living room and given an island to work at. The cabinetry offers plenty of storage with upper cabinets that reach the ceiling, as well as a built-in across from the dining table to allow for overflow storage and tie the spaces together.
The mudroom receives a boot bench, hooks and cubbies, the family now has a place to come in and drop things off before entering into the rest of the home.
A powder bath on the main floor complete with detailed wall paneling and wallpaper allowing the main bath on the first floor to become the master.
